Mo konei ka whakawhetai ahau mo te tangata naana enei ahua papai i hanga ma te Atua ora ia e awhina mo ana hanga pai katoa. Ano nga kanohi ote hunga mate kei te ora ano i naia nei.     June 24 . 1901  Hemana Te Pokiha  Maketu  I am from Te Arawa. It is amazing for me seeing the images of important people and chiefs of the Māori people who have now passed on. For this, I am ever so thankful to the artist who painted these excellent images, may God bless him for the wonderful work. It is as if those who have passed on still live today. To my elders, I greet you. Major Rāpata, Major Keepa, greetings to you both, colleagues of my grandfather, Major Pokiha. 
    June 24th 1901  Poneke Hui Hui  Tologa Bay  I am so glad to have seen these elders who have now passed on. Greetings to you all my elders. 
    24  Te Hata Pokiha  Waiomatatini  I have seen my elder Major Ropata I am so happy at the kindness of the Pākehā. It was them who are responsible for his painting appearing in this gallery. Thanks to the Pākehā people

The images produced by this Pākehā expert are very pleasant to look at - it's as if they have come back to life. We should be grateful to the person who captured these images of our elders as treasures for the days ahead of us.

    What an awesome view of Lindauer paintings and so far I have viewed 4 of my tupuna in this collection. Thank you very much for allowing me to do this it was a pleasure reading and getting to see where these paintings come from.

    To answer John Anstis'comment - Lindauer painted hundreds of works and this website is limited to those in public collections. Unfortunately these two portraits are not part of the holdings of art museums that have contributed so far.
