  30th July	Hone Tuhata	Taranaki	I am from Te Atiawa and Ngāti Toa. I actually saw some of these elders when they were alive. Most of the others are only familiar by name. We are fortunate for the kind consideration of our Pākehā friend who has given some of us the opportunity to see in spirit form the great tōtara of Aotearoa from days gone by. This is my affection for these paintings and also for the work of our Pākehā friend. Salutations to you my friend.

And I am grateful to our Pākehā friends for reminding us of some of our Māori elders who have since departed from us. Salutations to the Pākehā who arranged for this exhibition of paintings here.
