30th Dec  W. T. T. Pireiha  Rotorua  I was in awe at seeing these images of my people, the Māori. What an excellent job done by the artist who did all these portraits My salutations to him, I have much admiration for all these portraits.
    T. Williams
      Geo Williams
      M. T. Taurere  Muriwhenua  It was an amazing thing for me to see the portraits of my Māori people, that is, the famous chiefs of the Māori, and I pay tribute to the painter of these images who has retained a replica of our chiefs. They have gathered together in the spirit world but some are still living but only a handful. I pay homage to the painter of these portraits.
29th Dec  Taare (o te Poroti)  Matitiri  Excellent
1902 Jan 4th.  Makareti Papakura  Whakarewarewa  I was so delighted to see the portraits of my people. Farewell my elders.
Nā Tai Haruru  Te Akau   Salutations to my male and female elders who are here. My grief for you all here is immense. It is as if you are here in person as you have been captured so well. My greetings to you all. From Tai Haruru

Tena rawa atu koe Te Pikikotuku. Kai te tika tau. Aroha mai. While the comment is incorrect -as you have rightly pointed out- it is an historic comment recorded in the pukapuka manuhiri in 1902. I will attach a note to our records for Rewi Manga Maniapoto, noting your korero.

I note in gallery visitors book a comment about Tupotahi being a brother to Manga Maniapoto. see following extract...... "Mei 24 (1902) Tupotahi Tukorehu (memo - brother of Rewi Manga Maniapoto) Kihikihi " For your information, Tupotahi and Manga were in fact cousins not brothers. Their grandfathers were half brothers....
