Sept.  Rev'd Perere Peneti (F.A. Bennett)  Bell Block. Taranaki  I am impressed with the understanding of the Pākehā who painted our elders, most of whom are now passed on. It's as if they have been bought back to life. The eye can take in these images of the elders of the Māori people whose brave deeds in times gone by have made them famous.
Sept. 13  Te Heteritini  Remuera  Good
Hepetema  Tahu Rangi  Karamaene  These are our acknowledgements for having seen our elders. It is as if they have come back to life. I also want to acknowledge the painter of these portraits Therefore to all Māori who also saw their ancestors, these are my words of greeting, salutations to the ancestors, to the elders. My deepest respect to you.

Oketopa 2, 1901  Rameka Poi  Waiapu  I am in wonderment at this kind of work that has been done by the Pākehā. This is why I wanted to write these few words in this book. I was able to view the portrait of my ancestor Rapata Wahawaha, the person responsible for the survival of Ngāti Porou during the period of the wars. These are my words, and my thanks to the person who made this noble gesture. Farewell the esteemed elders of this land.
Farewell to you the noble people of New Zealand in your house that is remembered as Aotearoa There is much love for you all who are here in person therefore I pay homage to you all, the chiefs of Aotearoa. That is all from your descendant Mita K Ngatipare Ngāti Tahinga Raglan

Tena rawa atu koe Te Pikikotuku. Kai te tika tau. Aroha mai. While the comment is incorrect -as you have rightly pointed out- it is an historic comment recorded in the pukapuka manuhiri in 1902. I will attach a note to our records for Rewi Manga Maniapoto, noting your korero.

I note in gallery visitors book a comment about Tupotahi being a brother to Manga Maniapoto. see following extract...... "Mei 24 (1902) Tupotahi Tukorehu (memo - brother of Rewi Manga Maniapoto) Kihikihi " For your information, Tupotahi and Manga were in fact cousins not brothers. Their grandfathers were half brothers....
